Mini-abdominoplasty and goodbye to flabby belly

A mini-abdominoplasty is a less invasive cosmetic surgery procedure than the abdominoplasty. It has a smaller scope, leaves a smaller scar on the abdomen, and during the procedure, the belly button remains in place. It does not need to be moved as the removal of skin and fat tissues from the abdomen is minimal.

Is the mini-abdominoplasty for everyone?

Only a few people are suitable candidates for this surgical procedure. They should have excess fat in the lower abdomen and not throughout its entire length. People who have fat accumulation above the entire abdominal wall should opt for the classic abdominoplasty operation since this one can reach and remove the fat from higher up. The mini-abdominoplasty is much simpler, has a smaller scar, but its results are also smaller. Of course, many times these results are more than enough, and the recovery is faster.

Before the mini-abdominoplasty

On the first consultation day, the plastic surgeon will explain all the steps to perform a mini-abdominoplasty. You will discuss the goals you have and what this technique can offer. It is very important that both the surgeon and the person undergoing the mini-abdominoplasty agree on the results and feel comfortable with the expectations of both parties.

You will also fill out a small questionnaire with basic questions about your general health and lifestyle habits. There will be a manual examination of the abdomen, sides, and hips. This way, they can check how much fat tissue you have accumulated and how the surgery will be. At this moment, they can get an idea and will explain the characteristics of the intervention. They will also tell you whether a full abdominoplasty is necessary or if only the mini-abdominoplasty is required. This will depend on your current body condition.

Flabby abdomenTo complete the consultation process, you will discuss sedation and whether you will need local or general anesthesia. The surgeon will calculate the costs of the entire process and give you a budget. This will include the consultation, preoperative tests, and postoperative care.

After agreeing to the mini-abdominoplasty price, you will have to undergo preoperative tests. These check that you are in good health and can proceed with the surgery. The tests include an electrocardiogram and blood tests. They will also explain what you need to do before the abdominoplasty surgery, whether you need to fast, and you will sign the consent form. You will schedule a date for the surgery.

Which plastic surgeon to choose

The surgeon should be qualified in plastic surgery and be a member of the Spanish Society of Plastic Surgery SECPRE. Additionally, it is advisable that they have experience in performing this procedure to make the process smoother and safer.

How long does the intervention last?

The entire process takes between 1 and 2 hours. It may take longer if liposuction is also performed to make the belly completely flat. With a mini liposuction or full liposuction, the results can be enhanced even more.

After the mini-abdominoplasty, it is necessary to wear a compression garment for 3 weeks. You must wear it continuously, but you can take it off for hygiene purposes and washing. However, keep in mind that it is part of the process, and it is essential to wear it constantly for good results from the mini-abdominoplasty.

When local anesthesia is used, you can go home after the procedure. If general anesthesia is used, you need to stay overnight at the hospital. This way, the effects of the anesthesia wear off, and the next day, you will receive a checkup. Afterward, you will go home to continue your recovery.

Mini-abdominoplasty postoperative care

Abdominoplasty afterYou will feel discomfort and pain. The most common sensation is a tense and rigid abdomen, slightly swollen with a feeling of tightness. This is normal and occurs because the skin has been stretched. When the excess portion is removed, there is a skin stretch to make the abdomen smooth and firm.

Over the days, you will notice improvement, gradually and almost without realizing it. The feeling of tightness will disappear, and the discomfort will fade as you move with less difficulty. This typically lasts for a few days, and during the time between the first and second week of the postoperative period, most people can return to their normal life.

You may need treatment to reduce inflammation and accelerate the healing of the abdominal wall and the muscle fibers involved in the hips and sides.

After the first month, it is advisable to start exercising to strengthen the abdomen. These exercises should begin slowly and be guided by a trainer. Before these four weeks, you cannot engage in strenuous or high-intensity physical activity. Avoid running, the gym, and lifting weights.

Additionally, to improve the appearance of the mini-abdominoplasty scar and lipectomy, you will receive specific treatment. This will cause the color to become softer, and the incision line will be reduced, although you should be aware that it will remain there. Normally, after a few months, the size of the scar will be smaller and can be perfectly hidden with underwear or a swimsuit.

Are there risks?

Whenever you undergo surgery, there are health risks. It is important to be aware of them and not overlook them. To minimize these risks, you should choose a plastic surgeon with good references, qualifications, and experience. They must also use all the appropriate materials without exception.

Additionally, there is always the possibility of an infection, bruising, seroma, or poor healing. Some variables of the entire process cannot be controlled 100%. Therefore, it is important to keep these in mind. However, if you have a good surgeon, any complication will be properly addressed.

    Hello, I would like a mini-abdominoplasty and/or a mini-lipo in the first place.

    Is this possible?

Each case should always be evaluated. Depending on the abdominal flaccidity, whether there is excess skin, and the amount of fat in the abdomen, one procedure may be better than the other. Mini liposuction will reduce the amount of fat, but if there is flaccidity due to excess skin, it won’t correct that. On the other hand, abdominoplasty and its variants will correct sagging and flaccidity.
