The aluminum-free deodorant is a personal hygiene cosmetic that incorporates effective and eco-friendly non-carcinogenic elements and can also be paraben-free, in spray form and natural. It eliminates odor from the armpits. There are different brands and some of them are very good.

Aluminum-free deodorants
It is a basic element for controlling body odor. It keeps odors at bay when you sweat and must be gentle on the skin, allowing cells to breathe while not letting unpleasant particles escape. In addition, a good deodorant without aluminum should avoid staining clothing and of course not be carcinogenic.
Whenever you are about to buy one you should look at its composition, the substances and compounds it includes, since you can purchase deodorants without aluminum or parabens and others with them.
Types of deodorants

- Natural.
- Eco-friendly.
- Paraben-free.
- With parabens.
- Without aluminum or with the mineral with the symbol Al discovered by Hans Christian Oersted.
- Alcohol-free.
- Alum stone.
- Roll-on.
- Spray.
- Cream.
As we said, being more or less natural depends on the minerals and chemicals in its composition. Aluminum is a mineral that is often said to be able to cause breast cancer, although this is not actually proven. Nevertheless, it is always good to take care of the skin and, if you can choose between a product that contains preservatives and substances that can cause allergies and other reactions and another that does not, it is better to choose those that are aluminum-free and paraben-free. We will see what these are like and then explain the effect of aluminum on the skin.
Aluminum-free and paraben-free deodorant
This means that it does not contain preservatives or additives that extend the life of the product, that is it must be a natural deodorant.
The function of parabens in cosmetics is to kill bacteria that invade the compounds. These microorganisms spoil anti-odor products, creams, shampoos and any type of cosmetic free of preservatives.
Parabens are very cheap and that is why they are included in the vast majority of personal hygiene products. Approximately 98% of them contain parabens.
So an aluminum-free and paraben-free deodorant is one that is free of preservatives and aluminum particles. Instead, it should use other types of substances capable of blocking odor and not disrupting hormonal balance or producing endocrine disruption.
Brands of aluminum-free deodorants
- Sanex
- Nivea
- Vichy
- Byly
- Mercadona
- Deliplus
- Carrefour
- Lactovit

You should look for those that indicate on the label that it is a paraben-free and aluminum-free deodorant or read the ingredient list. This should not include the following components:

- Methyl, Propyl, butyl, benzyl (paraben).
- Methylparaben.
- Ethylparaben.
- Butylparaben.
- Propylparaben.
That is all words ending in “paraben”.
Effect of aluminum on contact with the skin
An antiperspirant can contain different compounds and particles such as salts and aluminum chlorohydrate. Its function is to cover sweat secretion by blocking the odor of sweat. The problem comes when it is applied to the armpits near the breast area.
According to some studies the body absorbs a certain amount of particles and aluminum salts, which may disrupt the functioning of the human body. Within the body it has an effect similar to estrogen, which are hormones with the capacity to incite cell growth, producing cancer.
Note, it does not mean that it produces cancer. In theory it could increase the probability of developing it.
In addition, women who shave their armpits and then use deodorant with aluminum —also men— accelerate absorption, which increases the risk. In this sense, there is a study of breast cancer patients that seems to indicate an earlier onset in patients who had these habits.
Are they better than deodorants with aluminum?
The final result is the same, that is to block sweat ducts so that it does not reach the surface and emit odor.
Effectiveness depends largely on each deodorant brand. That depends on the manufacturing process and preparation of the compounds it incorporates, which determines whether it is more or less effective against armpit odor.
Alternatives to deodorant with aluminum

- Mineral alum.
- Essential oils.
- Antibacterials.
Alum stone
Alum stone is a double sulfate of aluminum with potassium. Although it is free of aluminum chlorohydrate, it is not free of its salts. On contact with sweat there is a release of aluminum ions that have the effect of a antiperspirant deodorant.
The disadvantage of alum is that it is less effective and, after all, it continues to be a deodorant with aluminum.
Essential oils
At a given time they can work well since they give off a pleasant and intense floral fragrance, although their effectiveness varies greatly. They are less effective at neutralizing odor and their use is not specific as an antiperspirant. In addition, they have a high cost for daily use.

The fact that a word does not end in parabeno and does not appear in the ingredient list does not mean that it is not included. For example, it may contain sodium benzoate, which is a paraben and is harmful.
Hello Ana, thank you very much for the clarification about paraben-free deodorants.
Which one to choose?
I think the choice each person makes about what to choose is perfectly fine. What does not seem right to me is saying that parabens are bad or harmful because that is not the case. Their function is to prevent a product from going rancid and to make it last longer, which does not mean that it will harm us. Regarding aluminum, it does not prevent sweat odor at all. Please, if you write articles of this type, document yourself beforehand. Our sweat does not smell. What smells are the thousands of bacteria we have on our body, but since the areas where we sweat the most are the armpits and genital areas, that is why both deodorants and antiperspirants are used so much, which does not mean that they prevent the skin from perspiring. Another very important point is that a cosmetic never, I repeat never, penetrates beyond the dermis. That is why it is a cosmetic and not a drug. I say this is impossible because a product, before being released to the market, undergoes a very exhaustive study.
Good morning Amparo, my gynecologist warned me not to use deodorants with parabens since they are directly related to breast cancer. Best regards.
Hello Sylvia, I would appreciate it if you told your gynecologist that before giving that type of information they should inform themselves properly because that could never happen. As I say and reiterate, a cosmetic will never cross the dermis, since that is not its function and it is not something that is allowed. That is why there is existing legislation. All products, before being released to the market, go through a series of studies and one of them is with a dermatologist, who is responsible for evaluating their effect on the skin. Best regards.
Hello, which types of deodorants do not contain aluminum?
I cannot find any, they all have that component.
